A Letter To Myself

Dear Self,

Hey what’s up? It has been awhile since we have had a genuine heart to heart that did not involve copious amounts of champagne. I have to tell you I am loving your new hairstyle lately - rock it sister. Also, we need to discuss the tub of icing you ate the other day. Yeah, that happened

Anyway, I'm writing because as yourself, I feel like I need to tell you that you're great. You're great in this moment. Lately I've been catching you compare current times to the past. Why? Stop constantly holding on to your past and letting it predict and mold your future. It is not healthy for you. You are allowed to want happiness, complete and genuine happiness....but you have to stop looking at your past to provide it. Sometimes people want to go back and “re-do” situations, but waiting for a second chance, is like wasting your only chance at the one life you have. Move forward and live it.

Saying this is to empower you to move forward. To be free...of torturing yourself over what you said to whom, didn't say or should have said....to EVERYONE. With EVERYTHING. You will never truly be satisfied with life, as no one is... but you have to stop hiding behind things you wish you would have done differently, and just try new things without using the past as a compass.

You are not the same person you were yesterday, and you can change your path tomorrow, but you always have to be moving forward with yourself. Embrace today. You are a mere 32 years of age with a lot of amazing things to offer, so put on a heel, let your hair down and stop letting the reflection in the mirror define you. Stop letting the past define your future. This is your prime. Live it and stop wasting it on regretting your past! Oh- and lay off the icing, but keep rocking that hair!

I love you.

  1. If I may be so bold, you are correct that you can not compare you past to your present. I think the best thing that you can do is to allow your past to show you mistakes and the present to show you how not to make those mistakes. I think staying to much in the past is like trying to swim in a massive current, the more you try the further you are going to be taken away from what you were trying to get to. Being 32 you still have all the time in the world to change the things that you might not like. I would agree about the icing, that does not sound like a good idea. As I have learned it is always best to agree with the woman if she is loving her new hair cut! :)

  2. You're welcome. I am sure the icing was fantastic, I guess it is not so bad from time to time. I see you as a straight chocolate icing kind of girl.
